Zac and I had the pleasure (ha!) of doing an initial VO2 max test with the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation’s Athlete Health Lab this past week. We had a great meet-and-greet with Dr. Michael Kennedy and his team of graduate and undergraduate students, including Joao Falk Neto (PhD student), Sara Szabo (MSc student), Eric Ting Lai (undergrad), and Barry Wagner.
These are the folks helping to develop the training program, supervise the training, and collect data. What a smart and enthusiastic bunch! Beyond the VO2 max test, the assessment included a discussion about our current baseline fitness, about the target muscles stressed while pulling sleds and skiing with heavy loads (to tailor the training program), and about our overall goals and outline of their hypoxia study. We’ll meet again next week to discuss our VO2 max results, and really get running!
